20-year-old Jhaquel Delvon Lewis arrested, charged in Gilbert weekend shootings

GILBERT, AZ - A 20-year-old man has been identified as the sole-shooter in two Gilbert-area shootings over the weekend.

Police Lt. John Lyle said officers arrested and charged Jhaquel Delvon Lewis with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of a drive-by shooting after he shot two people within a mile of each other in Gilbert.

Officers responded to the first shooting in a neighborhood near Betsy and Palm streets Saturday, jus before 11 p.m.

Lyle said 100 people were outside of the house where a large party was going on. Officers said 20 to 30 rounds had been fired.

One woman had been shot in the arm and was transported to a local hospital. She has since been released, said Lyle.

Nearly 45 minutes later, officers heard gunshots and responded to a shots fired call at a local Shell gas station near Gilbert and Warner.

Officers were not immediately able to locate a suspect or a victim. However, Scottsdale Osborne Hospital later called police saying an adult male came in with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the back.

After an interview with police, Lewis was booked on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of a drive-by shooting.
