GM in Chandler: General Motors to hire 1,000 for new tech center

CHANDLER, AZ - General Motors says it will hire 1,000 workers to staff an information technology center in Chandler.

It's the fourth and final center that GM will announce. The others are in Roswell, Georgia, near Atlanta; Warren, Mich., near Detroit; and in Austin, Texas.

The automaker says it's hiring software developers, project managers, database experts, business analysts and other information technology professionals for the center in Chandler.

A spokesperson said GM will take temporary space immediately in west Chandler, then will build in the Price Corridor near the intersection of Loop 101 and Loop 202.

The company wants to develop software and other technology in-house instead of relying on outside companies.

The locations were picked because they have a lot of colleges and are rich with technology talent.

GM says it will open a temporary center in Phoenix before a new building in Chandler is finished early next year.
