After surviving the mass shooting in Las Vegas, a Valley couple brought their community together to raise money for the victims and their families.

Joel Maze and Hayley Boult helped organize a benefit concert Saturday at Tom Ryan's Country Bar in Chandler. The couple was in Las Vegas last weekend attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival to celebrate Maze's birthday.

"We got down on the ground right away," Maze said of the moment bullets started to fly into the crowd. "There was a couple ATMs right by the stage, we both got on the ground and took cover."

Both Maze and Boult are grateful they weren't hit, but after the shooting they wanted to find a way to help the victims.

"We feel very fortunate that we made it out of there alive," Maze said. "It was a really close call."

On Saturday, around a dozen bands performed outside - and inside - the Chandler bar, in addition to games, a raffle and food stands which all helped raise money for the victims and their families. There was also a large banner where community members wrote notes of encouragement and support.

Maze told ABC15 the money raised will go to the Las Vegas Victims' Fund.
