PCSO: Lost hiker found alive in Superstition Mountains

APACHE JUNCTION, AZ - The Pinal County Sheriff's Office said early Thursday morning, search and rescue members located a lost hiker in the Superstition Mountains area.

An official said 51-year-old Robin Byrd, who is described as an experienced hiker, was located along the Bluff Springs Trail just before midnight.

PCSO spokesman Tim Gaffney said rescue crews warmed Byrd up before flying her down the mountain and transporting her to a local hospital to be evaluated.

Officials said Byrd also had to be rescued last December, telling rescuers at the time she was looking for the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine.

In a separate incident, three hikers were rescued around midnight Wednesday in the same area. The men told deputies they'd met Byrd on the trail around 4 p.m. and she gave them wrong directions to get to the parking lot at the trailhead when they became lost.

In a third incident, a woman walked away from a fight with her husband while they were out riding an ATV and when she didn't return after 2 to 3 hours deputies were called at around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday to help search for her. Officials say she was returned home safely.
