Brian Kirby held on $1 million bond for 2012 murder of Apache Junction woman

FLORENCE, AZ - A 32-year-old man is being held on $1 million bond after he was indicted for first-degree murder in the death of an Apache Junction woman.

Brian Kirby is charged with the July 7, 2012 murder of 42-year-old Lora Athey and the July 5, 2012 attempted murder of another person, according to the Pinal County Attorney's Office.

Athey was found dead in her home after police responded to a request for a welfare check.

In addition to premeditated first-degree murder, Kirby faces attempted first-degree murder, misconduct involving weapons and theft of means of transportation.

In the other case, Kirby faces an additional four charges that include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, misconduct involving a weapon and aggravated assault causing disfigurement.

Kirby has a pre-trial conference hearing for both cases on October 22 at 9 a.m.
