Police say officers have detained the driver in a hit-and-run crash that sent someone to the hospital Friday night.

According to Phoenix police Sgt. Mercedes Fortune, officers responded to near the area of 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road around 7 p.m. for a report of a crash between a truck and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian was crossing McDowell when the crash happened, police said, adding the truck failed to stop after the collision. A witness provided investigators with a license plate number.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

Buckeye police officers assisted with a follow-up in a neighborhood near Southern Avenue and Watson Road and located the suspect truck with "extensive" front-end damage.

The driver has been detained, police said.

Authorities have not yet determined whether impairment played a factor in the crash.

Police said the 43rd Avenue off-ramp westbound from Interstate 10 is closed and 43rd Avenue southbound from McDowell Road is also closed. Those restrictions are expected to remain in place for the next 2 or 3 hours.
