Police say a man who was struck by a pickup truck in west Phoenix on Monday night has died.
The crash happened near 33rd and Northern avenues around 6:45 p.m. Police say a 77-year-old woman driving a pickup truck collided with a pedestrian who was crossing midblock.
The victim, only identified now as a man, was thrown into the other lanes of traffic in front of another truck.
That truck was able to stop before striking the victim but was rear-ended by a car. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the secondary collision.
Police say the driver of the second truck, Phoenix mayoral candidate Daniel Valenzuela, administered first aid and CPR to the victim at the scene.
The victim was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Valenzuela released the following statement about the crash:
"At approximately 7 p.m. Monday I witnessed an accident involving a pickup truck and pedestrian near 33rd Avenue and Northern. I stopped immediately. The car behind me was unable to stop quick enough and hit me from behind. I exited my truck, called 9-1-1 placed the phone on speaker and talked with the dispatcher while performing chest compressions on the victim. I continued with CPR until first responders from the Phoenix Fire Department arrived on scene and transported the man to the hospital.
I did what any other first responder would do when confronted with an emergency.
My prayers go out to the victim and his family. Fortunately, no one else was injured."

Right now, the cause of the crash has not been determined, but police do not believe impairment was a factor.
A little over a month ago, a man was killed at the same intersection of 33rd and Northern avenues.
There have been at least 73 pedestrians killed on Valley roads in 2018.
