Four teenagers have been taken to the hospital after a crash in west Phoenix Wednesday morning.

According to the Phoenix Fire Department, the four teens suffered serious injuries in the two-car collision near 67th Avenue and Thomas Road.

One of the four teens has been released from the hospital, but at last check, the other three were in critical condition.

All four are believed to be students at Trevor Brown High School.

Fire officials say the four teens were in a compact vehicle when they collided with a large SUV being driven by a 27-year-old woman with three children inside the vehicle.

Joan Salguerio stopped to help after witnessing the crash.

"It's already dried out," Salguerio said while pointing to blood on his shirt. "But that's the blood from one of the teenagers we were pulling out."

Salguerio returned tot he crash scene later on to get an update on the victims' conditions.

"I just wanted to see if everything was better; or if they were OK at least," he explained.

Police believe the teen's car pulled in front of the SUV when the accident occurred.

"It was smashed so bad that the girl that was in the passenger seat was laying flat with the person that was sitting behind her," Salguerio said. "And, the boy, he was laying on top of her."

Salguerio said he was among 15 people who tried to help the victims.

"I didn't know any of them," he said "Complete strangers. They just got off and started helping."

The Phoenix Union High School District explained the victims as being actively involved with school activities.

"They're student government; cheerleaders," District spokesperson Craig Pletenik explained. "Our principal said 'They're really the face of Trevor Browne High School.' Good kids — involved and positive role models."

The woman driving the SUV was transported to the hospital in stable condition. The children were reportedly not injured in the crash.

The roadway has since reopened.
