PHOENIX — According to a statement from the Diocese of Phoenix, a priest has tested positive for COVID-19 after holding Mass for at least the past two weeks.

Fr. Rafael Umaña of Ss. Simon & Jude parish has tested positive for COVID-19.

The church's rector and bishop are now in quarantine and awaiting test results.

"His condition has steadily improved, and he has been taking extra precautions in the rectory for everyone’s health and safety. The bishop and I are being tested, which requires us to quarantine at least until our test results come back," said Fr. John Lankeit, rector of Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral in a statement.

The statement goes on to say, if you attended the 6 p.m. Mass held by Fr. Rafael Umaña the past two Sundays or had close contact with him, you should look out for signs and symptoms of the virus and consider being tested.

The church will be changing their Mass and Confession schedule as a result.
