Authorities identify victims in crash on Interstate 17 near Black Canyon City

PHOENIX - Interstate 17 has reopened after two people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash north of the Valley Saturday morning.

The Department of Public Safety says the four-vehicle collision happened just after 10 a.m. at milepost 247.

Officials say a vehicle driven by 77-year-old Shirley Norice Evans of Black Canyon City was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-17 it struck a vehicle driven by 33-year-old Joseph Williams of Flagstaff. His passenger has been identified as 29-year-old Danielle Leigh Wolf, also of Flagstaff.

Two other vehicles were also caught up in the crash.

DPS says Evans and Wolf suffered life-threatening injuries and died as a result of the collision.

Williams suffered non-life threatening injuries and the drivers of the other two cars were not injured, according to DPS.

The crash closed southbound I-17 for several hours, causing a long backup.
