Authorities say one person has died and another remains in critical condition after a crash Sunday afternoon.
The pair, a man and a boy, were rushed from the scene in serious condition, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.
Police have identified the deceased as 42-year-old Muneer Muhammed. They say the 11-year-old child remains in critical condition.
The crash happened around 1:15 p.m. at the intersection of 19th and Northern avenues. Phoenix police say the two people were hit by a vehicle as they crossed the street in the crosswalk against a red light.
The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and impairment is not considered to be a factor in the crash, according to a police spokeswoman.
The crash closed the intersection and it would remain closed for the next few hours. Police asked drivers to seek an alternate route.
