Police say one person was shot and another is in custody after an officer-involved shooting in north Phoenix overnight.

The incident started around 12:30 a.m. Thursday when an officer tried to pull over a motorcyclist and passenger speeding in the area of 7th Avenue and Bell Road. The motorcyclist didn't stop for the officer and continued driving.

Officers nearby saw a motorcycle pull into a neighborhood near the Loop 101 and 7th Street and began to follow. Police found the motorcycle on the ground in the street with no one around.

A woman was seen hiding in the bushes nearby and an officer gave her commands to come out. During that time, an officer heard a man's voice coming from the other direction -- he was armed with a gun and pointing it at the officer.

The officer then shot the man, who was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

No officers were injured.

The woman was later taken into custody by police.

At this time, police have only identified the suspects as a man in his forties and a woman in her twenties.

Since the beginning of 2018, more than three dozen officer-involved shooting have occurred around the Valley. More than a dozen suspects have been killed in those shootings; a few officers have been hurt and a K-9 officer was killed.
