PHOENIX - Phoenix police are investigating after a man was killed in an officer-involved shooting in North Phoenix.

The shooting happened near 35th Avenue and Tierra Buena, one road north of Greenway Road, just before 7 p.m.

Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos said the incident began Saturday afternoon when they got a call about three individuals, one with a weapon, apparently trying to break into a condo.

Martos said when officers arrived a man was standing outside a condo, along with an unidentified male and female.

Police reports said Lance L. Danielson began yelling at officers, complaining that "he did not want to go back to prison," and preceded to grab a handgun from his backpack. During this verbal exchange, the two other suspects, fled the scene.

Officers began to negotiate with Danielson to put down the weapon, and when he refused SWAT was called out around 4 p.m.

SWAT officers negotiated with the 30-year-old man for about three hours at which point gunfire was exchanged and the suspect was struck and killed.

Police identified the man as Lance L. Danielson Sunday morning.

Martos said two officers were shot during the exchange of gun fire and transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

A female officer remained hospitalized Monday morning. A second male officer was shot in his ballistic vest and was released Saturday evening, said Martos.

Martos said they believe Danielson was upset because he was evicted from the property the night before the shooting.

Martos said some people were evacuated from the area during the incident and that the investigation n ongoing.
