PHOENIX — Phoenix police say a man has been arrested after his mother was found dead at a home near 15th Avenue and Hatcher Road Monday afternoon.

Phoenix police say at around 2 p.m. Monday, a man arrived at a hospital near Central and Dunlap avenues.

The man, 24-year-old Jesus Gamez Ruiz, had injuries that reportedly did not match with the information he had provided to hospital staff.

Officers responded to the man's home for a welfare check where his mother, 44-year-old Nora Ruiz, was found with obvious signs of trauma, according to police.

Nora Ruiz was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Nora had multiple lacerations, and a circular saw and concrete saw were both located in the residence.

Jesus Ruiz reportedly admitted to being involved in the incident when talking with police.

Jesus was booked into the Maricopa County Jail for one count of first-degree murder.
