Valley woman speaks out after husband tries to have her killed twice

PHOENIX - Libby Knadler said she lives her life in fear.  She spoke exclusively to ABC15 the day her husband, the man who tried to have her killed twice, accepted a plea deal.

"It's frightening, pretty frightening all the time," she said.

She said she's afraid her husband will try to have her killed for a third time. Police said Fred Knadler tried to hire two different people to murder his wife. First, his employee Patrick King. But Patrick called the police and Knadler was put behind bars.

Then Knadler tried to hire an undercover detective to kill Patrick and Libby.

"I feel he should be in prison for life," Libby said.

Patrick and Libby have formed an unlikely friendship. He's the only person who understands how scared Libby is every day.

"I can't be myself anymore," Libby said.

Wednesday's news scares them both even more.

76-year-old Knadler pleaded guilty to attempted kidnapping, a big step down from conspiracy to commit murder. In court he appeared frail and told the judge he's blind.

The Maricopa County Attorney's office said Knadler's failing health played into the decision to change the charges.

"He's not going to stop. I don't care if he's 90," Patrick said.

Patrick said it's never been Knadler wielding the weapon, he's always tried to hire someone to do it for him.

Patrick and Libby will get to speak at Knadler's sentencing next month. They plan to ask for the maximum 15 year sentence and that Knadler be kept in solitary confinement.
