Senator McCain memorial events in Arizona, around the country

Memorial plans have been set for late Senator John McCain. 

According to McCain's office, several different memorial events are planned in Arizona and around the country, some open to the public.

A family spokesperson shared details about the memorial schedule on Monday morning and shared Senator McCain's farewell statement.

Lying in state at the Arizona Capitol

According to the senator's office, McCain will lie in state at the Arizona State Capitol, 1700 W. Washington St., on Wednesday, August 29. The public is invited to pay respects and honor his life and service. At 10 a.m. PST, a private and formal ceremony will take place inside the state capitol rotunda. Speakers will include former Senator Jon Kyl, Governor Doug Ducey and Senator Jeff Flake.

The public is welcome to pay respects from 2 to 8 p.m. PST.

North Phoenix Baptist Church memorial

A memorial service will take place at North Phoenix Baptist Church, 5757 N Central Ave, at 10 a.m. PST on Thursday, August 30. A number of local, state, national and tribal leaders have been invited to attend, and about 1,000 tickets are available for members of the public. Those hoping to attend must submit a request online. 

Scheduled speakers include Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, former Vice President Joe Biden, and Grant Woods, who served as McCain's first chief of staff and later as Arizona Attorney General.

Lying in state at the U.S. Capitol

Senator McCain will lie in state at the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. on Friday, August 31. The formal ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. EST to honor the senator's life and service to the country. 

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Vice President Mike Pence will speak.

Doors to the U.S. Capitol rotunda will open to the general public at 2 p.m. EST.

Celebration of Life service at the Washington National Cathedral 

A national memorial service celebrating the life of Senator McCain will take place at Washington National Cathedral on September 1 in Washington, D.C. at 10 a.m EST. Senator McCain’s family, friends, congressional colleagues, and staff, as well as U.S. and international leaders, have been invited to attend and participate in the service.

Among those scheduled to speak are former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush, Senator Lindsey Graham, former senators Joe Lieberman and Kelly Ayotte and former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.
