A Phoenix woman was arrested after she was caught flying to Tennessee with the equivalent of 1 million lethal doses of fentanyl.
According to Metropolitan Nashville Police, in January, officers were alerted by DEA agents in Phoenix that luggage checked by 22-year-old Reem Ibrahim had a large bundle appearing to be marijuana inside. Two kilogram-sized packages wrapped in plastic were also detected.
When Ibrahim arrived in Nashville and picked up her suitcases, she was stopped by authorities and her baggage was searched.
Nashville police said one suitcase contained approximately 25 pounds of marijuana and the two kilogram-sized packages, which initially tested positive for cocaine, but were later discovered to be fentanyl. The second bag reportedly contained an additional 25 pounds of marijuana.
The nearly-five pounds of fentanyl was determined by the MNPD Crime Laboratory to be the equivalent of 1 million deadly doses.
According to Nashville police, Ibrahim said she was promised $1,000 to deliver the bags to Tennessee, but claimed she did not know there were drugs inside.
Ibrahim was arrested on charges of possessing cocaine and marijuana for resale.
