Phoenix shooting: 1 dead in Phoenix shooting, suspect and possible witness fled scene, police say

PHOENIX - Authorities are looking for two people who may have information related to the fatal shooting of a 46-year-old Phoenix man Friday evening.

Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos said 46-year-old Douglas Michael Rush was shot in the parking lot of an apartment complex near 17th and Missouri avenues Friday evening. Rush was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

The alleged shooter and a possible witness both fled on foot, Martos said.

Authorities responded to the area around 11:45 p.m. Police said Rush and an unidentified passenger were inside a pickup truck in the parking lot of the apartment complex meeting with a black male when an altercation followed.

Police believe the black male, described to be in his late 20s to early 40s, shot Rush as he was getting out of the truck, Martos said. After Rush got out of the truck, it was not put in park and traveled through the parking lot and struck a nearby building.

The passenger, who remained in the truck, was able to get out before the vehicle struck the building and fled, said Martos. Police have not been able to locate the passenger.

Police have described the alleged shooter, as a black male wearing a white T-shirt, dark pants and a dark baseball cap. He fled the scene in a white older model two or four-door sedan, Martos said.

Police have limited information and are asking anyone who may have information regarding this crime to contact the Phoenix Police Department's Violent Crimes Bureau at 602-262-6141. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
