Phoenix Police Chief Jerri Williams sat down with ABC15 Friday morning, not even 24-hours after the 34th officer-involved shooting in Phoenix so far in 2018, to discuss the department's concern towards the increase in shootings.

Chief Williams said she has no idea why the city is seeing so many officer-involved shootings, now more than ever.

Phoenix has had 34 by mid-August of this year, compared to 21 in all of 2017.

The city has hired an outside firm to look at the department and all officer-involved shootings to see if they can come up with some insight into why it keeps happening.

"These are 34 individuals who made the conscious choice to do something against officers," said Williams. "We take over a million calls for service and most of the calls for service end very well."

The chief says the study should be done by the end of the year. The city is spending about $149,000 on the study.
