A Phoenix man accused of starving his young son for 18 days in 2014 has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Maricopa County Superior Court officials say Ryan Adam Morris also was sentenced Tuesday to lifetime probation. He earlier pleaded guilty to child abuse and attempted child abuse.

Veronica Marie Diaz, the child's mother, received a similar 15-year prison term and lifetime probation last month.

Prosecutors say the 9-month-old boy was unresponsive when taken to a hospital in March 2014.

Doctors say his kidneys were failing and the boy was less than half the normal body weight for a child his age.

The couple reportedly bought soda and cigarettes after running out of baby formula.

The child got one bottle of milk daily and a bottle of water nightly.
