PD: Man arrested following homicide investigation near 16th Street and Roosevelt

PHOENIX — A man has been taken into custody following a homicide investigation in central Phoenix on Monday.

According to Phoenix police, officers responded to an injured person seen in bushes south of a business near 16th and Roosevelt streets around 6 a.m.

Officers found 67-year-old Oscar Guzman unresponsive with signs of trauma to his body. The Phoenix Fire Department responded and declared Guzman deceased.

Another man, later identified as 42-year-old Hector Zamarripa, was located near Guzman and detained for questioning. Zamarripa made admissions to detectives that he was allegedly responsible for Guzman's death, and that he stole some of his property.

Detectives arrested and charged Zamarripa for murder.

Investigators are having difficulty locating any next of kin for Guzman. The victim has preliminarily been identified as Oscar Jordan Guzman or Jordan Guzman. Police say the victim has been known to use other names. Guzman has a tattoo on his chest with the symbol of the Virgin Mary.
