PD: Suspect surrenders after barricade situation at Phoenix Baptist Hospital

PHOENIX - Police identified a gunman who surrendered after a barricade situation Monday morning at Phoenix Baptist Hospital.

According to Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump, 25-year-old Ryan McEwen was contained to a portion of the emergency room.

Police initially took a knife away from McEwen after a confrontation with police at 2:20 a.m. Monday. He then pulled out a gun, Crump said.

All patients were isolated in an area that was being secured by police.

The emergency room and the east side of the hospital were closed during the barricade. Other portions of the hospital were still open at this time.

Phoenix Baptist Hospital is located at 19th Avenue and Bethany Home Road.
