Paraplegic woman has wheelchair stolen in Phoenix

PHOENIX - The Phoenix Police Department is asking for the public's help to find a paraplegic woman's wheelchair.

Darlene Lovitt was cleaning her sister Marlene's wheelchair around 8:00 a.m. on February 26th. She placed it in their carport at 39th Avenue and Maryland Avenue to dry when someone took it.

Darlene discovered the wheelchair missing at 9:00 a.m. and called police.

Darlene is Marlene's legal guardian, her sister is a paraplegic from a brain injury.

According to Officer James Holmes the wheelchair was custom made for Marlene, and it is her only way to get around.

The wheelchair was not insured.
