New details have been released in a Phoenix officer-involved shooting that happened Tuesday night.
Officers responded to a home near 7th Avenue and McDowell Road around 6:15 p.m. for a welfare check.
When officers arrived they contacted the suspect's father as he was leaving the house. He told police his daughter, 24-year-old Claire Behun was inside the house with a knife. She reportedly made threats to harm herself and others.
When police entered the house they found Behun in possession of a large kitchen knife. She charged at one officer who fired his gun. She was not struck. At the same time, another officer deployed her Taser which was effective.
The suspect was taken into custody and treated for medical reasons. She was later booked into jail for aggravated assault on police.
The officer who fired the weapon has been with the department for about a year and a half, Phoenix police said.
This is the 60th reported law enforcement shooting in the Valley in 2018 and the 34th in Phoenix alone.
