Friends and family of former Gov. Rose Mofford plan an Oct. 30 memorial and celebration of the life of Arizona's first female governor, who died Sept. 15 at age 94.

An announcement says the event will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Phoenix.

The announcement says doors will open at 12:30 p.m. and that those wishing to attend the event are encouraged to arrive early as seating is limited. The theater's website says its seating capacity of 1,364.

A Democrat, Mofford served as governor from 1988 to 1991. She was Arizona's elected secretary of state when she took over for Republican Gov. Evan Mecham, who was impeached and removed by the GOP-led Legislature.
