Phoenix police are investigating after finding a dead man in the attic of his home on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers were called to do a welfare check at the home, located in the area of 21st Avenue and Washington Street in Phoenix.

An official at the scene says family contacted police because they had not heard from him in a few days.

When officers arrived on scene, they had difficulty accessing the home due to a large amount of clutter and debris inside. There were also reports of a very strong odor once they made entry.

Officers were eventually able to locate the man’s body in the attic. The man’s body was eventually removed from the attic by cutting holes in the roof.

Family members told police that the homeowner had so much clutter in the home that he had to sleep in the attic.

It is unknown how long the man had been dead.
