Garbage truck hits pole, knocks out power to Phoenix neighborhood

PHOENIX - Authorities say a garbage truck struck a power pole in central Phoenix Thursday.

The accident near 4th Avenue and Osborn Road involved a Republic Services truck.

Air15 video showed the pole sheared off at the base and a transformer lying on the ground with fluid running from it.

The driver stayed in the truck until power company crews could cut power to the lines.

Video showed the driver leaving the truck accompanied by firefighters. He appeared to be unhurt.

A spokesman for Arizona Public Service said approximately 120 customers lost power.

At 10:15 a.m. Alan Bunnell said only 15 customers remained without power. He said crews hoped to get them back on line by about 2:30 p.m.
