FD: Phoenix crews help distressed hiker off mountain

PHOENIX - Phoenix rescue crews helped a hiker in his 60s down a mountain Sunday morning after suffering a medical episode.

Captain Ruben Saavedra of the Phoenix Fire Department said crews responded to the distressed hiker at 9:30 this morning on a mountain near 40th Street and Shea.

Rangers used a big wheel to help transfer the man off a nearby trail and then used a 4x4 truck to bring the man down the mountain, said Saavedra.

The man was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
