The Arizona Humane Society shared the sweet moment a beloved military pet reunited with his family after a year apart!
Monty, an 11-year-old pit bull mix, spent the last year with a foster family in Surprise. Last weekend, Monty was reunited with his owner, Catarius Anderson, who was deployed to the Middle East in August 2017.
Jerri and Scott Wilber took Monty into their home as part of Arizona Humane Society's Project Active Duty -- a free program for military members who need a place for their furry family members to go while they're deployed. The program places pets with families for the length of their owner's deployment, regardless of the length of time.
AHS says the military foster project started after September 11, 2001, as a way to give back to military members.
"This program allows loving pet owners leaving for a tour of duty to entrust their pets with AHS, providing not only a peace of mind during their deployment, but comfort knowing that when they return, their pet will be waiting for them," AHS says about the project.
AHS captured video of the reunion, and it's safe to say the Andersons will be starting life again together right where they left off!
