A bicyclist was attacked by two dogs Tuesday morning in Phoenix, according to officials.
The incident happened in the area of 35th and Montebello avenues.
Police say a patrol officer in the area heard screams for help from the victim who had been pulled off his bicycle by two pit bulls.
Officers tried pepper spray and other means of separating the dogs from the victim, however, one of the dogs charged an officer. The officer then fired one shot, injuring one of the dogs.
Both dogs ran to a nearby home's carport area and one of the dogs was guarding the injured one. Eventually, animal control officers were able to capture both of them.
The bicyclist was taken to the hospital to be treated for arm injuries.
Maricopa County Animal Care and Control officials say the dog that was shot is being treated for a leg injury by Arizona Humane Society. AHS has the dog on a 10-day bite quarantine.
The uninjured dog also captured during the incident is on a 10-day bite hold at MCACC's West facility.
No microchip or identification was located on either dog. No owners have come forward.
