Hiker dies from injuries after tree falls on her near Sedona

OAK CREEK CANYON, AZ - An 80-year-old Sedona resident is dead after she was struck by a large falling tree while on a hike in Oak Creek Canyon on Thursday.

According to the Coconino County Sheriff's Office, Phyllis Lindberg and four of her friends had stopped for lunch around 11 a.m. during their hike in West Fork of Oak Creek Canyon when a conifer tree snapped and landed on Lindberg as well as another party member.

The two unaffected hikers contacted the Sedona Fire Department who after arriving, determined Lindberg had died from her injuries.

The other hiker hit by the tree sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment.
