Yarnell Hill Fire: Widow of fallen firefighter talks about their love, children

PRESCOTT, AZ - Today we learned more about one of the 19 firefighters who died in the Yarnell Hill Fire nearly a week ago.

Travis Carter, 31, left behind a wife and two young children.

His wife Krista found out the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots had died while at her birthday party.

She says Travis will miss his son Brayden turn 7 in a few weeks, and that his 3 1/2-year-old daughter Brielle is just beginning to understand what happened.

"When I told both of them that daddy's in heaven with God now, she cried, and was like, 'So he's up in the sky' and I was like, 'Yeah he is.' After that she kind of smiled. And it was like she had peace or comfort that he's up there."

Krista said she fell in love with Travis because he had a heart of gold.

She's drawing strength right now from her family and the other widows.

Travis had been with the hotshot team since 2009.

Krista says the support that keeps pouring in from across the state is really amazing.
