Three people were taken to the hospital after their plane made an emergency landing on a Prescott roadway Tuesday night.

According to Prescott Police, the FAA and Prescott airport officials alerted officers around 9 p.m. that a small inbound passenger plane from Los Angeles was running low on fuel and may land in the area.

Shortly after, the small Malibu Piper single nose-prop aircraft landed in the middle of Iron Springs Road near Meadowridge Road. According to the FAA, the landing area is about seven miles south of the airfield.

It appears the plane may have struck a light pole, causing the wing to shear off and the plane to flip onto its roof, police say.

The pilot and two passengers suffered non-life-threatening injuries but were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police also say the landing caused a minor vehicle crash in the area as one car stopped in the roadway and another rear-ended it. No one was injured in the vehicle crash.

The incident is still under investigation.
