A Kingman detective who was wounded during a fatal firefight with a suspect two months ago has returned to work.

The Kingman Daily Miner reports that Detective Dennis Gilbert returned to work last week.

Gilbert was shot when police went to the home of 53-year-old Jeffrey Cave to carry out a search warrant for a stolen firearm on Sept. 29.

Investigators say Cave fired at officers when they arrived and that officers returned fire, killing Cave.

An investigation by the Mohave County Attorney's office ruled the officers were justified in using deadly force.

Gilbert is a 17-year veteran of the Kingman Police Department. He was eager to get back to work.
