Body of base jumper found in Grand Canyon

GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, AZ - Rescue crews have recovered the body of a base jumper who was last seen jumping from a cliff in the Grand Canyon.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports a search and rescue team transported the body Saturday afternoon to be taken to a medical examiner's office.

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office says the jumper was found between 1,500 to 2,000 feet below the Grand Canyon rim.

Authorities say the National Park Service called a search and rescue team at 6 p.m. Friday after a friend of the missing jumper reported not hearing from him after the jump.

The friend told authorities he also spotted what he believed to be his friend's body in the canyon.

Authorities are not releasing the jumper's name pending notification of family members.
