Election officials investigated reports of thousands of ballots that had the wrong return date printed on them in Yavapai County.

The county recorder said on Sunday evening officials were informed of the ballots. They said of the 100,000 ballot packages, only one batch of 2,500 had the wrong date. The dates were printed on the outside of the envelope.

Come Tuesday afternoon, letters were sent out to all 2,500 voters to inform them that the printed date was incorrect. Officials said the date that was printed inside the ballots were correct.

Officials said the error was a typo from a technician. The incorrect date that was printed was November 18, when the correct date should have read November 8.

Voters who may have concerns are encouraged to contact the Yavapai County Recorder and can call (928) 771-3324.

The Arizona Commission for Election Accountability released a statement which read in part:

"Human error that results in mistakes like this is unacceptable. It's another reason we need to look at easy reforms like modernizing our outdated, paper-based system...We are monitoring this election closely and encourage everyone to let us know if they encounter problems by calling 1-866-OUR-VOTE or 866-VE-Y-VOTA or emailing us at MyVotingStory@AZAdvocacy.org. To be sure their early ballot arrives in time, voters should mail in their early ballot by November 2nd."
