SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Scottsdale residents Christie Kinchen and Jenny Hibbard wanted to give back to their community without clearing store shelves.
Hibbard realized, "I have more citrus than I know what to do with," Kinchen. Her sister, agreed, "I can't eat an entire tree of fruit."
So, they decided to strip their trees of grapefruit, tangelos, oranges, and lemons. Then, hand out the Vitamin C by the bag through a makeshift drive-thru outside Hibbard's home in Scottsdale.
The citrus is free. All the sisters ask for in return is an act of kindness. "I'm one human being. I can't help seven million Arizonans but I hope through kindness, we can spread this and do it in people's own communities," says Kinchen.
"Think about do you have a surplus of toilet paper, do you have a surplus of feminine hygiene products, or medicine, or ensure shakes something the elderly might need. Think about others in this time and what you can do for others," added Hibbard.
The sisters already have plans to expand the pop up to Mesa with help from Call It New/Call It Antique.
They'll be hosting another free citrus drive Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2049 W Broadway Rd, Mesa, AZ 85202.
Call It New/Call it Antique will also be collecting citrus donations through Sunday.
