Arizona Dermatopathology, a Scottsdale medical laboratory that specializes in processing patients' tissue biopsies, reported that as many as 7,000 patients could have had some personal data exposed due to an online security incident.

The lab, located at 9060 East Via Linda, is owned and operated by Palm Beach Gardens, Florida-based Aurora Diagnostics.

It's the only Arizona lab affiliated with Aurora Diagnostics, which has a network of more than 30 labs around the country.

Company officials released a statement July 19 saying the online breach affected the patient payments section of the website operated by Retrieval Masters Creditors Bureau, which does business as American Medical Collection Agency, a company used by Arizona Dermatopathology and other businesses around the country for debt collection.
