Community raising money for family of fallen Salt River PD Officer Clayton Townsend

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Members of the Salt River Police Department and the community came together Friday at CobbleStone Auto Spa in Scottsdale for a car wash fundraiser for their fallen officer Clayton Townsend.

Detective John Wyant of the Salt River Police Department witnessed members of the community donating throughout the day.

"The support for the family that they want to give and that's what they're here and they just walk right up and put money in the bucket," said Wyant.

Complete strangers donating like David Shannon of Scottsdale who said tragedies like this, hit close to home for his family.

"My brother’s an officer, he's on the job, you know he puts his life on the line every day just like the rest of these officers."

Even retired law enforcement like David Spelich, who spent 24 years as a Chicago Police Department Homicide Detective, stopping by to offer support to the family and law enforcement community."

"It's doesn't make a difference if you're active or retired, once a police officer always a police officer."

The money raised at the carwash will help support the Townsend family. Funeral services are set for Tuesday.

Donations can be made to the benefit memorial fund through Wells Fargo Bank, account number: 3535835825 specifically for Townsend's family.
