MCSO: Men sought after stealing up to $20K worth of amethyst from mine in Tonto National Forest

FORT MCDOWELL, AZ — Two suspects are being sought by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office after they allegedly stole up to $20,000 worth of amethyst from a mine in the Tonto National Forest.

According to MCSO, on August 16, 2018, two men broke into the Four Peaks Amethyst Mine, east of Fort McDowell.

Officials say the men caused damage to the mine and were seen leaving with a five-gallon buck of amethyst, valued at $15,000 to $20,000.

One of the men was seen getting into a black Toyota Tundra with a possible partial Arizona license plate of "GYO65."

Officials say the vehicle has damage on the driver's side door and front quarter panel. The vehicle is also missing plastic trim around the rear tailgate handle.

Both suspects are described as white men and 25 to 30 years of age.

One of the men is 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, and the other is approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall.
