Woman killed, nephew critical after being hit by car following Arizona high school graduation

TUCSON, AZ - A vehicle hit several pedestrians after a high school graduation ceremony near Tucson, fatally injuring an 83-year-old woman in a wheelchair and critically injuring an adult nephew of the woman.

The Northwest Fire District says the accident occurred Thursday evening as a group crossed a street after watching a relative graduate from Mountain View High School. A daughter of the woman was pushing her in the wheelchair but wasn't injured.

Identities of the victims weren't immediately released.

According to the fire district, the group was crossing the road at a spot without a crosswalk or lights and about 600 feet from a lit intersection with traffic signals.

The driver of the vehicle was said to be cooperating with Pima County sheriff's investigators.
