Two detention staff members at Pinal County Jail were violently assaulted by inmates Wednesday.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said, a lieutenant was taken to the hospital after being stabbed multiple times by inmates Robert Villalobos, 29, and Santiago Sanchez, 26, at the Pinal County Adult Detention facility.

Another inmate, Mauricio Moraga, 25, assaulted a detention sergeant when he attempted to help the lieutenant.

According to PCSO, the attack took place in the G-Unit and all  of the suspects are documented gang members.

The lieutenant, a 6-year employee at the sheriff’s office, was flown to the hospital in stable condition. He is expected to recover from his injuries.

The sergeant, a 3-year employee, was treated for a hand wound that did not require hospitalization.

PCSO is investigating and charges will be filed once the investigation is complete.
