Woman identified in deadly rollover accident at Interstate 10 at Picacho Peak

ELOY, AZ - Authorities have identified the 28-year-old woman who died after being ejected from her van after it rolled over along Interstate 10 Saturday morning.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said 28-year-old Rosa Ortiz from Tyrone, N.M. was not wearing her seatbelt when she was thrown from her vehicle in Saturday's crash along the Interstate 10 at Picacho Peak, just south of Eloy, Ariz.

DPS Officer Carrick Cook said investigators believe a rear tire separated from the vehicle, which was carrying 10 children and two adults, as it was traveling eastbound along Interstate 10 around 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

The adult in the passenger seat who was transported to the Medical Center in Tucson with minor injuries has been identified as 23-year-old Joseph Morgan of Phoenix. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Katy Reeve of Southwest Ambulance/Rural metro said the ages of the passengers ranged from infancy to 24 years old.

Two medical helicopters were called to the scene Saturday to transport victims to nearby hospitals.

The names or extent of the children who were injured in the crash were not available Sunday.

No other details were released.
