Mesa woman dies after being struck by falling tree branch, according to authorities

SUPAI, AZ - The Coconino County Sheriff's Department is investigating after a woman was struck and killed by a falling tree branch Saturday.

Sheriff's Department spokesman Gerry Blair said 27-year-old Danielle Marie Harris of Mesa was killed around 4: 15 p.m. in the Supai Canyon in northern Arizona.

According to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Harris was seated at a picnic table under a large cottonwood tree when a large branch broke off and struck her. Harris suffered multiple injuries including severe head trauma. When medics arrived, they pronounced her dead at the scene.

A 47-year-old man was also struck by the branch. Officials say he was flown to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Coconino County Sheriff's Detectives continue to investigate. They believe high winds in the area may have caused the branch to fall.
