The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office has identified a 28-year-old man who drowned in Canyon Lake Sunday as Tyron Turner of Apache Junction.

According to witnesses, Turner was swimming from the southern part of the lake to the northern side and stopped halfway when he realized he could not make it.

MCSO says Turner began to swim back to the south side and started to yell for help as he went underwater 20 yards from the shoreline.

Multiple 911 calls were made and as deputies arrived they used SONAR to locate Turner but were unsuccessful.

Later that night MCSO's dive team retrieved Turner's body which was in about nine feet of water.

MCSO says no obvious signs of trauma or injuries were located on Turner.

His body was taken to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office for examination.

Authorities say foul play is not suspected in this case as it remains under investigation.
