Authorities say four students have been charged in connection with a threat against a middle school earlier in the week, and the principal will also face charges in the case.
According to the Globe Police Department, a student at High Desert Middle School noticed a threat online and told their parents, who contacted police.
Officials said the threat included a plan involving handguns and homemade bombs. The four students will be charged with interference or disruption of an educational institution and terrorist threats.
Police said staff at the middle school were aware of the threat on Wednesday, the day before the threat was reported by the concerned parents, and did not notify the department.
The principal at High Desert Middle School has been charged with endangerment for failure to report. A spokesperson for the city said the charges brought forward will ultimately be determined by the Gila County Attorney's Office. A message seeking comment from the district about the arrest was not immediately returned.
In a post on the district's Facebook page the day before the arrests were announced, officials said GUSD worked with the police department and would take appropriate action to hold students and staff accountable.
Police said all Globe schools would be open on Monday and officers would be present at High Desert throughout the school day.
