Officials are investigating a deadly ATV crash that happened Sunday afternoon.

A spokesman for the Rural/Metro Fire Department said two people were involved in an off-road vehicle crash near Sycamore Creek, east of the Valley off of State Route 87.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, the quad collided head-on with a truck on Roma Ranch Road, which heads from SR 87 to Lower Sycamore Creek.

A woman riding on the off-road vehicle, later identified as 24-year-old Vera Maria Losoya, was pronounced dead at the scene. A man, 24-year-old Adrian Acosta, was driving the ATV and flown to Scottsdale Osborn hospital. He remained in critical condition as of Sunday night.

The driver was not hurt in the crash, according to Sgt. Calbert Gillett.

MCSO does not believe impairment nor speed played a role in the crash.

No further information was immediately available and the investigation was ongoing, MCSO said.
