Pinal County is planning to spend as much as $73 million to purchase land for economic development purposes. The county's plan follows an announcement that electric car maker Lucid Motors will build a manufacturing plant in Casa Grande.
The Casa Grande Dispatch reports that county spokesman Joe Pyritz could not confirm or deny whether the land purchase proposal is related to Lucid Motors.
The Board of Supervisors is planning to hold a public hearing on the plan on Jan. 4 in Florence. The county has distributed a press release about the hearing, but it doesn't mention any specifics about the project.
Lucid Motors announced in November that it will begin construction in Arizona next year and start producing luxury electric vehicles there in 2018.
