CASA GRANDE — Billed as a "Disneyland-style resort" in our desert, Dreamport Villages was proposed in Casa Grande more than two years ago. However, it's never been built, and ABC15 is learning it may be dead altogether.

On Monday, the Casa Grande City Council will consider a request to rezone 576 acres of the 617-acre project.

If the vote passes, owners of that land -- near where I-10 and I-8 intersect -- say "Dreamport Villages" would no longer be able to use the property for the theme park.

Developers had long promised resorts, shops, entertainment venues, extreme sports, a water park and a wildlife park.

The price tag has always been a hurdle, but this vote could be the nail in the coffin.

However, Alan Segall, one of the developers of Dreamport Villages, says the dream isn't dead.

Segall says "We haven't stopped moving forward, regardless of what happens, because there's still plenty of land. Even if something were to happen with that particular parcel, I don't see it being a problem."

Segall may be optimistic, but if the vote passes Monday, he would only have about 40 acres of land left to develop.

That amount is not nearly enough to build what was originally proposed.

As for the land that could be rezoned, the owners want to turn it into office space and a business park.
