Investigators say they are closer to solving a 12-year-old case of a doctor who was found shot and killed on a Casa Grande mountain.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said in a news release Wednesday that new technology is helping in the review of forensic evidence in the homicide of Alfonso Puyana

Babeu says detectives "are one step closer" to identifying the suspect or suspects responsible.

Authorities say hikers discovered Puyana's body on April 24, 2004 while at the base of Casa Grande Mountain.

The victim was found wearing only his underwear and he had multiple gunshot wounds.
